More specifically Google since that&#8217;s by far the biggest search engine in the world.<\/p>\n<p>You want to optimize your website for the search engines.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things you need to keep in mind when designing your website:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Theme_size\"><\/span>Theme size<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The size of your site plays a huge roll in the speed of your site and speed is a major ranking factor.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure there&#8217;s not a crap ton of code on your site. Try to keep it minimal to really optimize for speed.<\/p>\n<p>Also, there&#8217;s no need for all the bells and whistles. Most people don&#8217;t give a damn about your fancy sidebars and widgets.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"URL_structure\"><\/span>URL structure<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Make sure there&#8217;s no date in your URL, take it out. Dates in your URL will hinder your Google rankings.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using WordPress, you can easily take out the dates by going to the permalink section.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve already got an established website, make sure you redirect the old URLs to the new URLs through a 301 redirect.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Content_is_king\"><\/span>Content is king<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you want to rank on Google, you will need a lot of content.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve designed your website, good. The skeleton is up and content will put meat on that skeleton.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re working with clients, I would try to explain this to them.
